About me
Thelma Green is the Treasurer and Past Co-President of Project ACTION!, the District’s self-advocacy coalition of adults with developmental disabilities. Green is a strong self-advocate who has trained locally and across the country on a variety of topics including supported decision-making, advocating for yourself, and more. She serves on multiple Boards and committees including Shared Horizons, SARTAC, and many committees of District of Columbia government agencies including the Department on Disability Services. She has participated for many years on #ProjectPeerToo, an initiative funded by the Department of Justice’s Violence Against Women with Disabilities' to create system change in the District of Columbia for women and men with disabilities who are survivors of sexual assault. She is also a trained person-centered facilitator for the Maryland Expectations Matter ~ My Life, My Choice, My Plan! project that will train 1,000 people and family members over the next two years. She enjoys educating other people so they can be more independent and stronger advocates. Green also enjoys being a mentor to self-advocates who are learning to speak out. She is passionate advocate for people who do not use words to communicate. She believes that all people have something to say and she is a strong advocate for them.
